Rita Wilson opens up about breast cancer
Actress Rita Wilson revealed to People magazine that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Wilson, who is the wife of Tom Hanks, took a break from performing in “Fish in the Dark” on Broadway to address her health issues. “Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma,” she told People “I am recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery. Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion.”
R&B singer Percy Sledge dies
Singer Percy Sledge died at age 73 Tuesday of natural causes. Sledge, who had his first and biggest hit with “When A Man Loves A Woman,” had been in hospice care for cancer.
Justin Bieber apparently kicked out of Coachella
While Madonna was planting a big wet kiss on Drake during his Coachella performance Sunday, Justin Bieber was getting booted from backstage, TMZ reports. The pop star was trying to get into the artist’s entrance with his entourage to see Drake perform, but was told by security that the area was at capacity. Bieber and company had the proper wristbands for entry, so he argued with festival security. TMZ’s sources say Bieber was eventually escorted in, and that’s when a member of Coachella security put him in a chokehold. TMZ reports that a source close to Bieber says the singer is considering legal action against the security guards.
Ireland Baldwin checks herself into rehab for “emotional trauma”
Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, has checked into rehab due “emotional trauma.” The model, 19, revealed the news on Twitter saying she was seeking “the intensive therapy I need in order to recover.” “Someday I’ll feel ready to share my story openly without feeling the way I do. Right now I just needed a breather,” she said Monday. “I needed a chance to work on myself and gather all the tools I need to overcome everything I had been through and rid myself of all the pain I locked away in unreachable places.”
