Aretha Franklin meets Pope Francis
The Queen of Soul rubbed elbows with Pope Francis at the Festival of Families in Philadelphia over the weekend. “I met His Holiness backstage,” Aretha Franklin said in a press release. “We shook hands and I curtsied. I gave him a boxed set of sermons by my father, theologian Rev. C.L. Franklin. He asked me to pray for him as he had asked others to pray for him during his appearances. His interpreter was there and Secret Service.” Franklin performed “Amazing Grace” and the aria “Nessun Dorma” for the Pope and the audience.
Caitlyn Jenner will not be charged with manslaughter
Caitlyn Jenner is cleared of any wrongdoing in the fatal car crash that she caused earlier this year. TMZ reports that Jenner was driving inattentively when she rear-ended a Lexus, sending it into oncoming traffic causing it to hit a Hummer. The Lexus driver died at the scene. The accident was investigated by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department for six months and reviewed by the District Attorney’s office, which determined that Jenner was not speeding and she did hit her breaks before impact, although too late. “Based on facts, cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that suspect’s conduct was unreasonable,” the D.A.’s report said, according to TMZ. “A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter,” Jenner’s lawyer Blair Berk told TMZ.
