Mosaic Youth Theatre to play Apollo, Carnegie Hall

Detroit’s Mosaic Youth Theatre will perform as a special feature act Wednesday at the Apollo in Harlem as part of the venue’s famous talent show and also Thursday at Carnegie Hall. The group includes 28 local students who are in New York City for a weeklong trip that also includes sightseeing and taking in Broadway shows. Mosaic’s founder and artistic director, Rick Sperling, says the opportunity to perform at those two historic venues is “an experience they will never forget.” “It is fitting that while we are here in New York. One of our alums, Angela Birchett, is making her Broadway debut in ‘The Color Purple.’ As we launch our 25th season, we are proud to be ambassadors for Detroit in the arts capital of the world,” Sperling said.

Single day lineup and tickets announced for Mo Pop

Organizers announced acts and additional information about the two-day Mo Pop Festival taking place July 23-24 at West Riverfront Park. G-Eazy, HAIM, Glass Animals, BØRNS, FIDLAR, Twin Peaks, Bishop Briggs, Alex G, Panama Wedding, Coast Modern, Quilt and Michigan’s own Tunde Olaniran will perform July 23. The July 24 schedule features M83, the Head and the Heart, Matt and Kim, Father John Misty, Mac Demarco, Shakey Graves, Nothing But Thieves, Kaleo, Banners, Raury, Lewis Del Mar and the Greeting Committee. Weekend passes went on sale earlier this year. Single-day tickets will go on sale at noon Wednesday. General admission tickets are $89.50 and VIP tickets are $199. The School of Rock company is offering free admission to children 12 and younger when accompanied by a ticketed adult. VIP tickets include access to a lounge area, express re-entry, front-of-stage viewing, premium parking, air-conditioned executive bathroom trailers, upgraded food and beverage offerings and access to free massages. Additional details about a Mo Pop Riverside Biergarten also have been revealed. Mike Posner’s new video features Detroit boxing gym

Pop singer and musician Mike Posner featured the Downtown Boxing Gym in the video for his latest single “Be As You Are.” The video features dancer Big Will Simmons working out in the gym, which is known for its youth program. Posner, a Southfield native, told Billboard magazine the song is “among the most honest songs I have written.” “Be As You Are” is the follow-up to the song “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” which went to No. 4 in the United States and No. 1 in the United Kingdom.

Couples buzz

Congratulations to singer Jill Scott, who married her longtime boyfriend, Mike Dobson, over the weekend. “Grandfathered” star Josh Peck became engaged to his girlfriend Paige O’Brien recently. Also, Taylor Swift and new boyfriend Tom Hiddleston appear to be getting closer. She took him to Nashville to meet her parents last week, and shortly after the pair was spotted in England with his mom.
