Business and entertainment mogul Russell Simmons will visit Ferndale this month for a fundraising event for Flint Community Grocery.

Vegan restaurant GreenSpace Cafe, 215 W. Nine Mile, will host “Gathering with a Purpose” 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26. The mix-and-mingle event aims to raise funds and awareness for the pop-up store Flint Community Grocery. Powered by the non-profit Fresh Start, Flint Community Grocery is planning to be a locally owned and operated full service, brick-and-mortar store in Flint, a city that is still devastated by the water crisis.

Besides Simmons, a noted vegan, another featured guest is attorney and community leader Benjamin Crump, president of the National Bar Association. The event includes a meet-and-greet and is hosted by GreenSpace owner Dr. Joel Kahn, who specializes in holistic cardiac health.

Tickets, $75, include a tax deductible donation, a beverage and hors d’oeuvres.

Earlier this year Simmons visited Flint and donated 150,000 bottles of water via RushCard, his pre-paid debit card company.
