Watch videos from Chris Cornell's last show in Detroit
Hours before his death inside his MGM Grand Hotel Room, musician Chris Cornell seemed enthusiastic about bringing rock back to the Detroit.
According to fans on social media, Cornell gave a blistering, impassioned performance that included song favorites such as "Black Hole Sun," "Spoonman" and "Rusty Cage," moving into deeper cuts from their more recent album. The band ended the night with an encore and performance of "Slaves & Bulldozers, which featured a refrain from Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying."
Hours later, a friend went to check on Cornell at the request of his wife and found him dead, according to police, with a band around his neck. Authorities have determined Cornell died of "suicide by hanging"
The 52-year-old musician's final chapter is now a sad part of Motor City rock and roll history.
News of Cornell’s death prompted scores of tweets expressing sadness. Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry tweeted: “Very sad news about Chris Cornell today. A sad loss of a great talent to the world, his friends and family. Rest In Peace.”
