Justin Timberlake talks ‘Prince moment’ with Fallon
Following his Super Bowl halftime performance, Justin Timberlake popped-up on “The Tonight Show” to perform and goof around with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon said that Timberlake’s “Prince moment” was “beautiful.” “It’s a moment for me, if I’m being quite honest, because he’s always been the pinnacle of musicianship,” Timberlake said. “It was dope,” added Questlove when Timberlake asked for his approval on his homage to the Purple One. Timberlake said he was able to use the actual recording from Prince’s song “I Would Die 4 U” for his Super Bowl performance. “And then we got uncut footage from his performance of it in ‘Purple Rain’ and somehow, some way, by the grace of — probably Prince looking down on us — it synced up. It was this crazy, serendipitous moment.”
Prince memorabilia heads to auction
In other Prince news, sparkly outfits worn by the late superstar, one of his famous white “cloud” guitars and other memorabilia will head to auction May 18 via Julien’s Auctions. The guitar has a pre-sale price tag of $10,000-$20,000. In November an auction for a Prince guitar reached $700,000.
Paul Simon announces final tour, including DTE stop
Paul Simon is mounting one last tour, and Metro Detroit is one of his stops. Simon will play DTE Energy Music Theatre on June 10, promoters announced Monday. Tickets for the concert, dubbed Homeward Bound: The Farewell Performance, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Guess Jeans co-founder responds to accusations
Guess Jeans co-founder Paul Marciano is speaking out after model Kate Upton called him out last week on Twitter. “It’s disappointing that such an iconic women’s brand @GUESS is still empowering Paul Marciano as their creative director #metoo,” she wrote. “I fully support the #me too movement. At the same time, I will not stand by and watch my reputation be tarnished,” his statement reads.
