Cary Elwes, Nichelle Nichols booked for Comic Con

The Michigan Comic Con scheduled for Aug. 17-19 at Cobo Center has announced a few of the celebrity guests. “The Princess Bride” star Cary Elwes will sign autographs and take photos with fans ($40 each) on Aug. 18-19. “Star Trek” star Nichelle Nichols will attend all three days and also will greet fans. Ray Park who played Darth Maul in “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” also is scheduled to appear, along with voice actors Billy West, Paige O’Hara and Linda Larkin. ‘Empire Records’ headed to Broadway

A classic mid-1990s film about teens who work in an independent record store, “Empire Records” is getting the Broadway treatment. Original screenwriter CarolHeikkinen has teamed up with composer Zoe Sarnak for a stage version of the movie, set for 2020. The 1995 film starred Renée Zellweger, Liv Tyler, Ethan Embry, Robin Tunney, Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth and Maxwell Caulfield, who played aging pop star Rex Manning.

Lorde apologizes for Whitney Houston bathtub post

Pop star Lorde is super sorry after she posted a photo of a relaxing-looking bathtub with Whitney Houston lyrics as the caption. “And iii will always love you,” she captioned her Instagram post. The lyrics are from Houston’s 1992 cover of the Dolly Parton song, “I Will Always Love You.” Houston died in a bathtub in 2012 and her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, also was found unresponsive in a bathtub and later died in 2015. Lorde, 21, apologized and called herself “an idiot.” “Extremely extremely poor chosen quote,” she wrote. “I’m so sorry for offending anyone — I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath.”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman and Detroit Lions’ Theo Riddick headline VegFest

Celebrity doctor and PBS personality Joel Fuhrman M.D. and Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick are the headlining speakers at this year’s VegFest, which is April 29 at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
