Stern furious after speech cut for broadcast
Howard Stern was none too pleased that his speech, where he inducted Bon Jovi into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was edited for broadcast on HBO. The SiriusXM radio host was clearly miffed after watching the televised ceremony, and he took to the airwaves with his displeasure. “I really crafted my words, I wanted to make people laugh. I wanted to have a good time,” Stern said during his Monday show. “I really crafted the thing ... so some editor could determine if I was funny in places? They were probably like, ‘Hey, that’s a funny joke, but we gotta cut somewhere.’ No you don’t have to cut somewhere!” Stern’s frustration boiled over to his upcoming sit-down interview with David Letterman, which is set to premiere on Netflix later this month. Stern and Letterman talked for more than two hours, Stern said, and since Letterman’s show only lasts an hour, he’s already fearful of the cuts. Stern said he will no longer be participating in any speeches or interviews until he is granted final cut over how they are presented.
J. Cole heading to Detroit
J. Cole will perform at Little Caesars Arena on Sept. 21, venue officials announced Tuesday. Tickets for the show, $49.50, $69.50, $89.50 and $149.50, go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. Young Thug will open the show. The concert is part of Cole’s 34-date outing behind his latest album, “KOD.” Cole’s last area concert was a July 2017 show at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
‘Transparent’ ending its run
Amazon’s acclaimed series “Transparent” will end after its upcoming fifth season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The show’s lead actor, Jeffrey Tambor, has come under fire for accusations of sexual misconduct. “I did raise my voice at times, I was moody at times, there were times when I was tactless,” Tambor told THR. “But as for the other stuff, absolutely not.”
■Congrats are in order for Kirsten Dunst, who gave birth to her first child over the weekend. Dunst, 35, and her fiancé, actor Jesse Plemons (“Game Night”) are the proud parents of a baby boy, People reports. No name has been revealed.
■Rapper 2 Chainz proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kesha Ward, on the red carpet at Monday’s Met Gala. The “It’s a Vibe” hitmaker surprised Ward with a ring while cameras flashed behind them. Chainz proposed to Ward once before, in 2013, but the couple never tied the knot. Chainz and Ward have three children together.
