Detroit News sponsors Shakespeare in Detroit new season
The Detroit News is partnering with Shakespeare in Detroit to sponsor the thespian group’s 2017 season, which continues later this year with a performance of “Hamlet” at New Center Park.
Last weekend the professional theater group opened its fourth season with the drama of Shakespeare’s “Henry V” to sold-out shows in the ballroom of the historic Stearns mansion in Detroit.
“We are excited to connect and partner with such a respected organization in the community, and appreciate the support from The Detroit News for local artists who continue to produce their work in Detroit,” said Shakespeare in Detroit founding artistic and executive director Sam White.
The nonprofit group calls itself site-specific, meaning they don’t always perform in traditional theaters but in mansions, parks, restaurants and even a recycling center.
