Browse our photos of artists Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo in the 1930s, when they came to Detroit for Rivera to work on the "Detroit Industry" frescoes commissioned by the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Muralist Diego Rivera at work on a section of the Detroit Institute of Arts murals in 1931. Rivera found his theme prowling the city, visiting the neighborhoods where the workers lived, areas heavily populated with ethnic groups who toiled in nearby factories.
