Pennsylvania Dutch refers to those who immigrated to Southeastern Pennsylvania in the 18th century and to their descendants. They settled here to farm and created their own language also called Pennsylvania Dutch - a mixture of German, English and their imaginations.

They also brought their own way of cooking and adapted it to the foods they could raise on their farms - foods like chicken, pork, potatoes, apples, eggs, milk and vegetables.

From these people comes the whoopie pie, a soft chocolate sandwich cookie whose giant size puts an Oreo to shame, and chow chow, finely chopped vegetables in vinegar and pickling spices.
