Twenty intrepid bikers will make the 313-mile trip from Detroit to Petoskey starting early Saturday morning in the third-annual Split the Mitt ride to raise money for cancer prevention.

Want to help out? Pedal on over to Belle Isle Friday evening from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. to enjoy a preparatory warm-up ride with the marathoners and wish them well. The first 300 cyclists will win gift cards, t-shirts and other cool stuff.

Feeling generous? Team Less Cancer would be thrilled with a contribution. (You can also give at lesscancer.org.)

The aim is to raise $50,000 to help the nonprofit Less Cancer (also known as Next Generation Choices Foundation) spread the word on environmental and lifestyle changes that hold off disease.

Once on Belle Isle, bikers should head for the casino.
