It was a very good year at the Detroit Zoo, which broke its all-time attendance record in 2015, drawing 1,476,378 — beating the previous high set in 1997 of 1,364,905. “Wild Lights” alone, the zoo’s annual holiday light show, accounted for one-tenth the new total. It drew 144,000 guests to the 125-acre, world-renowned zoo with its 2,500 animals representing 270 species.
