When Royal Oak resident Tené Logan got married in September 2013, she found it challenging, not to mention stressful, to lock down a venue.

“The pressure and urgency to find one before our date was taken by another couple was palpable, since we had experienced losing our date at a popular venue to another couple during our search,” says Logan, 38.

She eventually secured the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, but the agonizing experience of venue hunting inspired her to start MiWeddingTours. The tour company launching this month makes it easier for couples to see several Metro Detroit wedding venues in one day. Two upcoming tours, each five hours long, are scheduled Saturday and Feb. 25.

The goal is to “improve the process and experience of searching for and booking venues,” Logan says.

For Saturday’s Elegant and Refined Tour, a coach bus will depart at 10 a.m. from The Somerset Inn parking lot at 2601 W. Big Beaver in Troy and will return at 3 p.m. Couples will tour Troy venues Petruzzello’s Banquet and Conference Center and The San Marino Club, as well as Southfield venues Regency Manor and Banquet Center and St. John’s Banquet and Conference Center. Each stop lasts one hour.

The Unique and Rustic Tour on Feb. 25 includes Detroit venues the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Guardian Building, Roberts Riverwalk Hotel and Detroit Boat Club.

At the venues, which accommodate 50-800 guests, caterers and event planners will share information and answer questions. Couples also will sample Champagne and hors d’oeuvres, and receive discounts in swag bags.

While wedding planning can turn brides into bridezillas, Logan says the tours are intended to help women “worry less” and “smile more.”

“And (they’ll) check off one of the most important and huge items — the venue — off of their very long list without feeling rushed or settling for a venue they are unhappy with,” she says.

Tour participants must be at least 21, and there is a limit of two tickets per bridal party. The $55 tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com. Call (248) 733-5763 with questions, or visit miweddingtours.com.
