Gaining weight over the holidays may seem inevitable. An excess of tempting foods served in social settings combined with a holiday spirit that lets you ignore dietary prudence. Cold weather and short days that may inhibit your usual exercise routines.

Another factor this year is the lingering stress and uncertainty of the coronavirus. And perhaps the extra pounds you've already added from pandemic life - an average of 4 pounds, according to one study.
