One good event

Get ready to enjoy Fleming's Wine and Dine event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 when Fleming's celebrates the release of Forty-Six Diamonds — an exclusive blend created by Fleming's national wine director Maeve Pesquera and Ladera winemaker Jade Barrett. This wine, from Ladera Vineyards in Napa Valley, California, is only available at Fleming's and will be served to complement a five-course dinner including oysters on the half-shell and tea-smoke pork tenderloin for $95 per person. Call for reservations at the Birmingham, (248) 723-0134, or Livonia, (734) 542-9463, locations.

One good drink

The Reed's Ginger Brew family has grown to include to flavors of Raspberry, Cherry and Spiced Apple to add to its collection of premium soft drinks. GMO-free, preservative-free and caffeine-free with no artificial anything, these exceptional brews are great for sipping on their own or serving as a mixer for a host of cocktails. Try this terrific cocktail invented by Paul Nikac of the Harvard Club of New York. Grand Marnier: Combine 2 ounces Grand Marnier and 4 ounces Reed's Original Ginger Brew in cocktail shaker over ice. Squeeze in juice of lime wedge and drop the wedge in. Lightly shake and strain into martini glass garnished with spiraled orange rind. Makes 1 cocktail.

One good tip

Having trouble reaching those items on the top shelf of the pantry? Grab a pair of tongs from the kitchen drawer to help.
