Ferndale-based Treat Dreams ice cream shop will open a second location in Midtown Detroit this year, the company announced Thursday.

“When we opened Treat Dreams in Ferndale more than four years ago, we immediately became a part of the community,” Scott Moloney, Treat Dreams founder, said in a statement. “They embraced us and loved us, so much so that people have been coming to our store and to our ice cream truck and events from all over the area. The energy and excitement happening in the City of Detroit, and particularly in Midtown was simply inescapable for us.”

Work is beginning on converting the former Melt Gelato Shop, 4160 Cass, into the second Treat Dreams location. Treat Dreams officials said the shop will offer espresso, iced and frozen drinks and cakes as well as ice cream.

The micro-creamery at 22965 Woodward in Ferndale, features about a dozen homemade ice cream flavors daily and the company has created more than 800 flavors, including “macaroni and cheese” and “lemon extra virgin olive oil.”

“Midtown Detroit, Inc. is thrilled that Treat Dreams will be joining the growing number of new businesses that are opening along Cass Avenue,” said Sue Mosey, president of the nonprofit planning and development organization. “Their tremendous selection of high quality ice cream will add yet another great amenity to the district.”
