Good Stuff: a giveaway, a fall drink and a way to save wine
One good wine saver
The Savino wine preserver works for serving wine at dinner parties and helps keep open bottles taste fresh. Just pour leftover wine into the container, insert the float to create a physical barrier between wine and oxygen and place the top on the carafe to prevent spills. It comes in plastic and glass. Available at savinowine.com and at Brookstone stores. Prices range from $29.995-$59.95.
One good drink
As we transition to colder temps, ease into the season with a fall-inspired cocktail. You can impress guests with your mixology knowledge by creating your own apple gastrique — a mix of apple juice, sugar and vinegar. The Bacardi Gran Reserva Ocho Años is a high-end rum offered by the popular company. The rum has been described as having “notes of dried fruits, nutmeg and oaky vanilla.”
One good event
Lisa Howard, culinary speaker, recipe developer and author of “The Big Book of Healthy Cooking Oils” is hosting a free seminar noon Saturday at the BetterHealth Market, 42875 Grand River in Novi. Those curious about coconut oil or flummoxed about flax seed can learn the differences, as well as culinary tips on cooking and using various oils. RSVP at (248) 735-8100 or theBetterHealthStore.com/Events.
