Good stuff: A yogurt blend, a mandoline and a drink
One good yogurt blend
This month Yoplait unveiled a new product that combines two popular breakfast foods — oatmeal and yogurt. The Plenti line is available in blueberry, apple cinnamon, maple brown sugar, peach, strawberry, and vanilla. The oatmeal adds a distinctive chew and substance to the yogurt. The products are low in fat and contains 11 grams of protein. Available in major supermarkets for about $1.59 per 5.5-ounce container.
One good mandoline
Oxo’s large hand-held mandoline slicer features seven thickness options, a nonslip grip and stainless steel blades. The clear surface shows slices accumulating below and the wide ramp accommodates a variety of vegetables. The grip allows for slicing directly over bowls, which is a plus when preparing multiple dishes. Available online at oxo.com. Retail price is $24.99.
One good cocktail
This wine and amaretto spritzer was inspired by ingredients available in the refrigerator. Reducing cider and orange down into a syrup is the key. Top with a splash of amaretto liqueur, then finish with a healthy pour of sparkling wine and the end result is a fizzy, bright concoction. A sprig of rosemary adds a fresh touch.

The Sparkling Orchard Grove
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup orange juice
4 ounces amaretto liqueur
750-milliliter bottle sparkling wine
8 sprigs fresh rosemary
In a small saucepan over medium-high, combine the cider and orange juice. Simmer until reduced to 1/2 cup, 20 to 25 minutes. Set aside to cool.
To prepare each cocktail, pour 1/2 ounce of the cider-juice reduction into a sparkling wine flute. Add 1/2 ounce of amaretto liqueur to each glass, then top with sparkling wine. Lightly smack each rosemary sprig several times against the counter to release the oils, then add 1 sprig to each cocktail. Serves 8.
