Good stuff: Popcorn popper, dairy dessert and an event
One good popcorn popper
The silicone Pop Top Popcorn Popper lets you make old-fashioned stove top popcorn in the microwave without resorting to the store-bought bags. Just open the triangle panels on the top, add five tablespoons of kernels, plus oil or butter, and you end up with 10 cups of fluffy popcorn in a couple of minutes. Available online for $19.99 at chefn.com and bedbathandbeyond.com.
One good ice cream alternative
Brio Nourishing Indulgence bills itself as “A New Way to Look at Ice Cream” and packs much less in the way of fat and calories compared to premium ice creams. The frozen dairy desserts are fortified with vitamins and have about 160 calories per a half-cup (Ben & Jerry’s has about 250 calories for the same-sized serving) and half the fat. Available at major retailers and online at icecreamsource.com. About $2 for a 4-ounce serving.
One good chocolate event
Rattlesnake Club bartender Farouk Elhaje will be part of small plates and chocolate drinks pairing at 7 p.m. Feb. 5. Measure chorizo-stuffed and bacon-wrapped dates with a drink made from Myers Rum, chocolate bitters and more plus three other courses, each paired with a chocolate-inspired drink. Cost is $45, plus tax. Go to rattlesnakedetroit.com.
