Good Stuff: Brownie brittle, Febreze, and cedar planks
Chocolatey and super crunchy, Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle is similar to those yummy bits that get baked onto the sides in a pan of brownies. They’re addictive and are good crumbled over ice cream. Available at Costco and other retailers. Costs range from $8.99 to $12.99 for a big 16-ounce bag. A 5-ounce bag will be available this summer, according to the company. Also available at browniebrittle.com.
One good cleanser
Febreze, the popular product designed to freshen up unpleasant spots and items, has come out with an in-wash additive they say has “three times more freshening power.” The Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator is designed to work with laundry detergent in the wash and tackle any lingering smells from tough odors such as campfire smoke, mildew or burned dinners. Sold at major retailers including Wal-Mart, Kmart and Meijer. A 50-ounce bottle retails for $8.99.
Cedar planks add a subtle, nutty flavor to delicate foods such as whitefish and, with spring coming and warmer temperatures, it’s a good time to stock up on grill accessories. The planks help keep your food away from the direct heat of the grill and provides a heat shield. About $13 for two. Available in the camping or kitchen aisles of major stores or at charbroil.com.
