Garden Photo Winner: Perennials, annuals work together

Maureen Feighan
The Detroit News

Sue Smith’s garden in front of her Bloomfield Township ranch is a colorful tapestry of annuals and perennials. There are hostas, begonias, sweet alyssum and petunias. “Sprinkled in are Halcyon Hosta, Cinammon Fern, and Tiny Tuff Stuff Hydrangea,” says Smith. Sedum will bloom shortly. Colorful annuals “are flowing around perennials like water dancing around rocks in a brook,” she says. Smith’s photo, “Foxcroft Serenity #2,” is this week’s winner of the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. She’ll win a free or garden book; she’ll also be a finalist for the grand prize, a $100 gift card to English Gardens. To enter your garden photos, go to detroitnews.com/gardenphotos; submit them to the “Gardens” collection. Or mail them to the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest, 160 W. Fort Street, Detroit MI 48226.
