Barbara O’Keefe’s Livonia garden is a labor of love.

The longtime gardener is constantly expanding her garden — adding perennials, annuals and greenery.

There are hostas, zebra grass and buttercups that bloom in June. There also are day lilies, phlox, astilbe, black-eyed susans, beebalm and begonias that outline the flower beds in the front and backyard. She also has two water ponds with Japanese koi.

“My daughters always joke with me that it looks like something out of a fairytale at night with the lights that line the pathways and the fireflies floating above the grass,” says O’Keefe.

O’Keefe’s photo, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” is this week’s winner of the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. She’ll win a free home or garden book; she’ll also be a finalist for the grand prize at the end of the summer, a $100 English Gardens gift card.
