And then there was one.

After a summer and early fall filled with beautiful garden photos from all over southeast Michigan, our Homestyle Garden Photo Contest officially draws to a close. More than 300 of you submitted photos to our contest and wow, what a showing!

There were gorgeous container gardens, tiered gardens, country gardens and everything in between. But we could only pick one grand prize winner.

And the winner is Lori Heiden of Farmington Hills. Heiden’s photo, “Backyard Oasis,” shows a garden that is 25 years in the making. It includes milkweed, asters, turtlehead, cimicfuga and coneflowers.

“The past few years I’ve been focusing on creating a wildlife habitat to support birds, butterflies and bees,” Heiden told The Detroit News earlier this month.

Heiden wins a $100 gift card to English Gardens along with a basket of gardening goodies.
