As a retired educator, Irma Landin-Obregon from Trenton now has more time to devote to her outdoor space. “I converted my backyard from a lawn to a flower garden. It takes a lot of work (that I enjoy), but it brings us lots of joy sitting and enjoying the garden and the birds,” she says via email about the perennials and ground covers she planted that include Shasta daisies, coneflowers, black-eyed Susans and hibiscus. “Working in the garden is my passion and I have to be patient every year until it is warm enough to get out and get my hands dirty.” Her “Lovebirds” photo is this week’s winner. She’ll win a free home decor or gardening book and be a finalist for the grand prize, a $200 English Gardens gift card. To enter your best garden photos, go to detroitnews.com/gardenphotos.
