Looking for a way to "dress up" the back of her St. Clair Shores home and add some color to her backyard, Jennifer Rizzo turned to a unique receptacle: a wood pallet.

First she attached a commercial grade weed barrier to the back, then she added dirt while it was laying on the ground and started experimenting with plants.

"I began just using coleus and fell in love," said Rizzo in an email. "I use many varieties and colors. It is in a mainly shaded area. The plants stay vibrant throughout the summer and into the fall."

Rizzo's photo, "Coleus Pallet," is this week's winner of the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. She'll win a free home or garden book. She'll also be a finalist for the grand prize, a $200 English Gardens gift card.
