“There’s no place like home” is this week's garden winner

For the past 20 years, Marie Cavanaugh of Royal Oak and her husband, Larry (shown), have lived in her childhood home where she’s planted plenty of perennials, while relying on annuals for color. “I’m never without a pruner or a broom in my hand but it’s my form of relaxation and I love the feeling of satisfaction I get when I look at the beautiful space we’ve created,” she says via email. “Both my parents are deceased but nothing made them happier than to see us enjoying this yard. I like to think they’re watching us enjoy our own little slice of heaven!” Her entry, “There’s no place like home” is this week’s winner. She’ll win a free home décor or gardening book and be a finalist for the grand prize, a $200 English Gardens gift card. To enter your best garden photos, go to detroitnews.com/gardenphotos.
