Celebrate World Smile Day
Catching Fireflies will be sending seeds of happiness to more than 100 nominated recipients in celebration of World Smile Day Oct. 6. April McCrumb hears many stories from the people who walk through her stores in Berkley, Rochester and Ann Arbor and she wanted to send a little sunshine to those who were going through dark times. “We've sold thousands of these little handmade clay smiley faces in our shops over the years,” says McCrumb who knew they were the perfect gift to send. If you’d like to nominate someone who is struggling to smile, send an email by Oct. 1 to service@catchingfireflies.com with the subject: WORLD SMILE DAY. Include the nominee's full name, mailing address and a couple of sentences about their situation. Nominator must include their full name and relationship to the nominee as well. The bright yellow envelopes containing the seed of happiness will be sent with an uplifting message and delivered around October 6. “We believe in the power of little things because those small actions can sometimes make the biggest difference,” adds McCrumb. Ceramic artist Rae Dunn has home decor line
Kirkland’s introduces the exclusive Rae Dunn Collection, the first home decor line by the nationally-acclaimed ceramic artist. Priced from $5.99 to $39.99, the collection brings her playful, “perfectly imperfect” style to new categories like pillows, frames and glass cloches, along with enamel accessories, another first for Dunn. “My art is a way for me to embrace the joyful, spontaneous elements of daily life. I don’t strive for perfection in line and form in my work,” she said in a press release. “I love the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete, and this collection tells that story through and through. I have expanded my brand into home decor with this collection, but the black and white, clean style is still the focal point.” For information, go to kirklands.com.
