Five homes open doors for Huntington Woods tour

Five homes in a range of architectural styles will open their doors as part of the 27th annual Huntington Woods Home Tour on June 2. The tour, which runs from 1-5 p.m., starts at the Huntington Woods Library, 26415 Scotia Road, where participants will receive a map. The homes on this year’s tour “reflect the diversity and character of our city,” according to the Huntington Woods Women’s League, which organizes the tour. Pictured is the living room of a 1926 Tudor that will be featured on this year’s tour. Tickets are $20 in advance online or $25 the day of the tour. The Good Rug sells vintage Moroccan rugs, pillows and other home decor. Owner Annie Ledvina currently has a pop-up shop open on Kercheval in Detroit's West Village.

Detroit pop-up shop offers vintage Moroccan rugs

When Annie Ledvina closes up her pop-up rug, pillow and home decor shop in Detroit’s West Village on June 15, it’s for good reason: She and her family are headed on another buying trip to locate more totally unique finds, this time to Morocco and Kenya. But there’s time to duck into Ledvina’s The Good Rug (last week’s Homestyle cover story had several rugs and pillows from it), 7960 Kercheval. It’ll be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 1-2 and 8-9. Ledvina, who carries mostly vintage rugs, sees them as modern art for the floor. “I carry rugs, pillows, and a few small accessories, such as baskets, hand-painted signs, and hand-crafted mirrors,” said Ledvina in an email. “I buy almost everything in person in Morocco and Turkey, and look for textiles that are unique, interesting, and affordable. My favorite pieces are the more abstract and unusual Moroccan rugs.” After June 15, Ledvina says she’ll keep selling her spring/summer 2019 collection online and may open another pop-up shop on Detroit’s east side in the fall.
