Karen Marsh's photo, "Peaceful Waters," is the 2019 grand prize winner of the Homestyle Garden Photo Contest. Readers voted for the winner from 12 finalists.

Karen and Tim Marsh’s backyard garden in Van Buren Township has a little bit of everything: perennials, heirloom plants from loved ones and relatives, a water feature, vintage plant stands and more.

Karen Marsh says it’s become an oasis in the middle of the neighborhood for birds and butterflies alike.

“One of our favorite things to do is spend the morning in the garden with a cup of coffee watching all the activity and listening to the water feature and all the sounds of nature,” said Marsh.

Now the couple’s garden has something else: the title of grand prize winner of the 2019 Homestyle Garden Photo Contest.

Karen’s photo, “Peaceful Waters,” was the top vote-getter, beating out 11 other finalists to win a $200 English Gardens gift card. More than 1,000 people voted over five days to pick the winner.

And while their photo may be tops, our gallery photos just how talented our gardeners are here in Metro Detroit.
