Chesterfield Township -- A Clinton Township couple was hospitalized Thursday after a driver struck the motorcycle they were riding together down Gratiot.

Authorities say a 58-year-old Chesterfield Township man driving a Toyota sedan pulled out on to Gratiot from Telstar and struck the couple broadside as they were traveling northbound.

The husband, 59, and wife, 56, were both transported to McLaren Macomb hospital where they were listed in critical but stable condition. Neither of them were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The 58-year-old Chesterfield man was uninjured and told police he did not see the couple before he pulled out.  The man was released from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the accident.
