Detroit-- A 45-year-old Detroit man was hospitalized early Friday after he jumped out of the second-story window of a burning house.

Authorities say the fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Friday at 9106 American St. off Joy Road.

Detroit Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said Friday afternoon that the fire was "electrical in nature" and started in the living room.

The victim, who was in an upstairs room when the fire started, suffered a serious leg injury from the jump and was treated at Detroit Receiving hospital, Fornell said.

It is unclear if anyone else was in the house during the fire, he said. The investigation is ongoing.
