Police: Eastpointe man sought underage girls for sex

A 23-year-old Eastpointe man faces three charges in a case where authorities allege he sought out underage children online for sex, then showed up at what he believed was a meet-up with "several condoms."

On Jan. 18, a release from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said, Macomb Area Computer Enforcement, or MACE, found an online ad placed by a man "seeking sexual intercourse with underage children." 

Posing as respondents, deputies reached the man who allegedly placed the ad: Eastpointe man Daryl Johnson. As they spoke, "Johnson indicated that he wished to have sexual intercourse with a young female in exchange for illegal drugs," detailed what those activities would entail, and sent nudes of himself to what he believed was a young girl, but in reality was a deputy sheriff.

They set up a meeting with Johnson the next day, to which Johnson showed up in a Ford Crown Victoria, the car he said he drove. Police arrested him as he pulled up the driveway. A search revealed Johnson had brought "several condoms, but no narcotics."

Johnson was arrested and is now at the Macomb County Jail, facing two charges of child sexually abusive material and one of using a computer to commit a crime, all felonies. At his arraignment Tuesday morning, at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township, Johnson was given $100,000 bond. He's due back at 41-B for a probable cause conference on Feb. 5 at 8:30 a.m.
