Man, 75, charged with shooting caregiver, uncle to be evaluated
A 75-year-old Garden City man charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his caregiver and the woman's uncle was ordered Monday to be evaluated for competency to stand trial.
Phillip Joseph Demouy is accused of shooting his 42-year-old caregiver and her 62-year-old uncle, also of Garden City, around 11 a.m. Sept. 16 in the 180 block of Belton in Garden City.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered the 62-year-old man outside the Belton residence and shortly afterward discovered the caregiver inside the residence.
Both victims were taken to a hospital.
Demouy was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, two counts of felonious assault and four counts of felony firearm. His probable cause conference was held in 21st District Court.
Demou was referred for a competency evaluation . He was given a $300,000/10 percent bond.
