Mass school shooting experts are urging return of Oxford High students. Here's why

There have been enough mass school shootings in America that guidelines for reopening schools have emerged, and those blueprints focus on a central point: getting students back to school to begin their recovery.

Experts in school security and mental health from across the country who have been on site after mass-casualty school incidents say recovery for students and staff is a long and complex process. Officials must first reestablish physical safety inside a school building and quickly begin to address the emotional needs of all those traumatized, they said.
