It's shaping up to be a white Christmas for Metro Detroit as rain and snow are in the forecast for next week.

"We could possibly be waking up to snow coming down on Christmas morning," said Deb Elliott, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.

The beginning of the week will bring chances of a rain and snow mix for Monday night through Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to be in the 40s during that period, Elliott said.

Temperatures are expected to drop late on Christmas Eve.

"Depending on how the system sets up will determine if the snow makes it in here for Christmas Day," Elliott said.

The high temperature for Christmas Day is expected to be in the low to mid-30s.
