The Goodman Acker firm is set to hold its 3rd Annual Community Law Day for southeast Michigan residents from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 at Second Ebenezer Church, 14601 Dequindre in Detroit.

Attorneys specializing in personal injury, auto accidents, disability plans and Social Security claims are expected to offer free legal consultations and advice, organizers said. Attorneys from other firms also are set to provide legal advice on issues such as police brutality, divorce/family law, workers’ compensation, mortgages/bankruptcy and employment.

Lawyers offer between 15-30 minutes of free legal advice, depending on availability, coordinators said.

“One of the best things about our firm is our desire to give back to the community,” said Barry Goodman, the firm’s senior partner who co-founded Goodman Acker in 1993. “Our community law day, now in partnership with our friends at Second Ebenezer Church, allows us to use our skills to help those most in need of legal services.”

A complimentary lunch is provided by Mezza Mediterranean Grille. There will also be children’s activities throughout the day such as face painting, a balloon artist, carnival games and a “bounce house.”
