Detroit — A woman is safe Wednesday after she was abducted and briefly held hostage on the city’s east side.

A 27-year-old man was taken into custody around 1:40 p.m. on the 16400 block of Bringard after he allegedly abducted the woman, also 27, from a traffic crash near Mack and Cadieux and took her to the Bringard house, said Officer Nicole Kirkwood.

The relationship between the man and woman is unknown, she said.

“(The report) mentions that there was a child involved but the child is OK,” said Kirkwood, who added she did not know how the child was involved in the incident.

Officers initially were called around 10:10 a.m. Wednesday to the crash at Mack and Cadieux, police said.

“The suspect was seen forcing the victim into his vehicle,” Kirkwood said. “Units tried to stop the vehicle and the suspect fled.”

Investigators surrounded the home on Bringard after finding the suspect’s vehicle behind the location, Kirkwood said.

“(The suspect) was observed at that location,” she said. “He refused to open to the door but eventually he came out and was taken into custody.”

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, Kirkwood said. The victim was not injured.
