Detroit — A man was fatally stabbed after allegedly assaulting a woman early Thursday during a domestic argument, police said.

“They were in a domestic argument, he assaulted her, she armed herself with a weapon and stabbed him once in the chest,” Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on the 3400 block of Second Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Lewis said.

Lewis said she does not know the relationship between the victim and suspect.

The 60-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the 45-year-old woman was arrested. Police are looking into whether it was a self-defense situation, Lewis said.

“That’s part of the investigation,” she said.
