DPS: Open houses Wednesday, no schools to close in fall

Detroit — Detroit Public Schools plans open houses at all 97 of its classroom facilities after school Wednesday, and the district says no schools will be closed this fall.

Schools will be open for two hours after classes end for parents and children who have not chosen a school for the coming year, including families with new pre-kindergarten students. Times vary by school. A complete list of schools is at detroitk12.org/schools.

“We are pleased to be able to offer families these enrollment opportunities earlier in the school year than in past years so that they may plan for the fall,” said Karen Ridgeway, DPS superintendent of academics.

The district said Tuesday it plans in the next two weeks to announce “new and enhanced programs” to boost academic achievement and help attract and retain students.
