Body found in burning car in Detroit

Detroit — Police know the where, now they’re investigating the who, why and how behind a body found in a burning car early Thursday morning on the city’s east side.

According to Sgt. Cassandra Lewis, at about 2 a.m., first responders were called to a car fire in an alley near East Grand Boulevard and Goethe in an area between Mack and Charlevoix.

The body has been turned over to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and cause of death.

This is the second body to be found in a burning vehicle in the metro area in less than a week.

On Tuesday, the charred body of a man was found in the back of a burning van in a storage shed in Pontiac. That case is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
