Detroit police: Suspect shot driver fleeing robbery attempt
Detroit police are seeking a man they say shot a motorist trying to escape a robbery attempt last week on the city's west side.
A 41-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle in the 14700 block of W. Seven Mile about 9 p.m. Tuesday when an armed man approached and tried to rob him, police said in a statement.
"When the victim drove away, the suspect fired several shots at him, striking the victim in his leg," the statement read.
The Detroit Police Department on Monday released images of the suspect, who was captured on camera near the victim's car and in a store.
The suspect is described as 45-50 years old, about 6 feet tall, weighing 250 pounds with gray hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, red checkered button-up shirt and dark pants, police said.
Anyone who has seen the suspect, knows his whereabouts or has information on this incident is asked to call the DPD Criminal Investigation Unit at (313) 596-1616; a police investigator at (313) 596-1258; or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
