Detroit police are investigating a shooting Friday night that left a man dead on the city’s west side.

The 44-year-old’s body was found about 7:50 p.m. behind a garage at his home in the 19900 block of Stout, said June West, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department. The man, whose name was not released, had a gunshot wound to the side of his head, she said.

It wasn’t yet clear when the shooting occurred. A friend made the discovery Friday evening; the victim’s wife told police she last spoke with him about 11 p.m. the night before, West said.

“We’re investigating when this happened and how,” she said.

Investigators remained at the scene late Friday gathering evidence.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
