Detroit — Police are asking the public’s help locating a suspect in a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon at a gas station on the city’s west side.

A 24-year-old man from Detroit was fatally shot around 3 p.m. during an argument inside the BP gas station on the 7000 block of Grand River Avenue, Officer Dan Donakowski said.

“They knew each other,” Donakowski said of the victim and suspect. “It looks like there were some words exchanged.”

The suspect, who goes by the street name “Sonny,” fled on foot in an unknown direction after the shooting, Donakowski said.

“Sonny” is described by police as a black male in his 30s with a medium complexion and tattoos on both arms. He is 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, police said.

Anyone who has seen this individual, knows his whereabouts or has any information is asked to call the Detroit Police homicide unit at (313) 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
