Fitness park to open near Detroit’s east riverfront
Detroit — A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for a free outdoor workout space near Detroit’s riverfront.
A fitness class will follow the official opening Wednesday of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Fit Park along the Dequindre Cut Greenway, just east of downtown.
The park has six fitness systems that focus on strength training, endurance and cardiovascular activities. It features parallel and pull-up bars, a cardio stepper and other equipment.
Fit Park is part of Live the Riverfront, a multi-year partnership between Blue Cross and the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. Live the Riverfront promotes physical fitness and healthy living through a series of free or low-cost activities.
Funding for the Fit Park comes from Blue Cross’ 4-year, $1 million pledge to the partnership with the Riverfront Conservancy.
