Woman shot by intruder on Detroit’s east side
Detroit — Police are investigating an early morning home invasion in which a woman was wounded by a shirtless gunman wearing a mask.
According to the Detroit Police Department, the incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 16400 block of Collingham on the city’s east side near Gratiot and Eight Mile.
Police said the suspect kicked in the front door of the house and then went to the rear of the dwelling where he encountered the 58-year-old home owner.
The suspect shot the woman in the hand before fleeing the home.
There are media reports that the woman fired back at the invader with her own weapon, but the DPD’s public information office said there was no indication of that in their preliminary report on the incident.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for a nonlife threatening wound.
The gunman was shirtless, was wearing gray shorts and a black mask.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-2200.
