Detroit homeless man shot in face in robbery attempt

Detroit — A homeless man received a graze wound to his left cheek and ear early Wednesday during a robbery attempt near the Belle Isle bridge, police said.

The 56-year-old man was lying on a bench when he was shot around 1:45 a.m. near East Jefferson and East Grand Boulevard, Officer Dan Donakowski said.

“It just looks like it was a robbery. The suspect approached him, said : ‘Give me all you got,’” Donakowski said. “The suspect then produced a gun and fired a shot.”

The suspect is approximately 18 years old, with a medium complexion and short afro, Donakowski said.
