Detroit — Federal agents raided an east side home early Thursday and arrested a resident as part of their year-long investigation into firearms and narcotics trafficking, officials said.

The raid on Gallagher at East Winchester, near Eight Mile and Ryan, was part of a series of raids Thursday by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Special Agent Donald Dawkins said.

"We're in the search warrant part of the investigation," Dawkins said. "We hope to wrap this up this morning."

Dawkins, who serves as public information officer for the ATF in Michigan, said further action could be taken at a later date.

"That all depends on what happens today," he said Thursday.

The Gallagher raid targeted a small single-story home on a block dotted with abandoned homes.

A man was arrested during the raid and officials seized items from the home and detached garage, Dawkins said.

"Anything found that would pertain to the investigation, they took it," Dawkins said.

Three ATF agents left the scene in an unmarked car shortly after 8 a.m. A woman inside the home declined to comment.

Dawkins said he could not provide further detail about the raid or other ATF activity Thursday.

"It's still an active investigation," he said. "It's still ongoing."
