Detroit fire authorities are investigating what led to a blaze Monday night on the city’s west side that left one man dead.

Crews were called to a home in the 8600 block of Ellsworth about 10:30 p.m., fire officials said. There, they found a man not breathing, officials said.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, fire officials said.

No one else was reported in the house when the blaze erupted. The fire was extinguished and did not appear to affect surrounding structures, city officials said.

Arson investigators remained on the scene after 11 p.m.
