Detroit — A 23-year-old tow truck driver was fatally shot late Monday after he was flagged down by two suspects on the city’s west side, police said.

The Detroit resident was shot around 9:45 p.m. near a Citgo gas station at Schoolcraft and Wyoming avenues, Officer Keisha Beasley-Dorsey said.

“The victim was flagged down by two males. They attempted to rob him, shots were fired, and he was struck,” Beasley-Dorsey said. “The victim fled (in his truck), and he struck a wall at the Citgo gas station.”

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died, Beasley-Dorsey said.

It is unclear if the victim knew his attackers, she said. The shooting remains under investigation.
